The Irish National Stud and neighbouring Japanese Gardens, said by experts to be the best of their kind in Europe, are attractions well worth visiting. The Irish National Stud is home to some of Ireland's finest thoroughbreds. Visitors can view stallions, mares, foals, and yearlings.

Lodge Park Heritage Centre
Lodge Park Heritage Centre

Located outside Straffan village, Lodge Park is a Palladian House built in 1773. There are two attractions at this location - the Straffan Steam Museum and The Walled Garden. The Steam Museum tells the story of steam power, and has working steam engines and related displays. The Walled Garden is of 18th Century origin and is divided into different sections including a roserie which is at its best in June & July. Other features include a tea room and gift shop.


Russborough House
Russborough House, Blessington

Russborough House in Blessington, is situated near the borders of counties Kildare and Wicklow. Nestled in spectacular natural surrounding, there is no other Palladian house in Ireland to rival it aesthetically or architecturally. It was designed by the renowned German architect, Richard Castles. It has been perfectly preserved, with all original features still intact. It was built in 1741 by Joseph Lesson, first Earl of Milltown. The architect was the German, Richard Castle (Cassells).


Straffan Butterfly Farm
Straffan Butterfly Farm

An interesting attraction, with live butterfly exhibitions. Ireland's first live tropical butterfly exhibition. Also on display are reptiles, tarantulas and bird eating spiders. All exhibits are under cover, so this facility is weather-independent.
